Speier Supports Resolution to End Military Operations in Libya
Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA) today released the following statement after voting for a resolution to end U.S. military operations in Libya within 15 days. The resolution failed.
“From the beginning, I said President Obama should have consulted with Congress before pursuing military action in Libya as dictated by the War Powers Act. The rationale for the mission there is humanitarian. Why not Syria or Yemen? Operations in Libya have already cost taxpayers $750 million at a time when we are facing massive deficits and drastic cuts to programs here at home. Given the lack of a clear exit strategy and the fact that we have already spent $1 trillion on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, continuing military operations in Libya is something our nation simply cannot afford.”
