The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is chaired by Reps. Darrell Issa (CA) and ranking member Elijah Cummings (MD). The Committee is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program and any matter with federal policy implications. Congresswoman Speier serves as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Energy Policy, Health Care, and Entitlements where members hold the government accountable to taxpayers on the issues of federal health care policy, food and drug safety, energy policy, and the solvency of our federal entitlement programs. She also serves on the Subcommittee on National Security which has oversight jurisdiction over national security, homeland security, foreign operations, immigration, and emergency management, and criminal justice. The subcommittee also has legislative jurisdiction over drug policy.
The Armed Services Committee is chaired by Reps. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (CA) and ranking member Adam Smith (WA). Congresswoman Speier serves on the Readiness and Oversight and Investigations subcommittees. The Readiness Subcommittee makes sure that our troops are properly trained and their equipment is properly maintained so they can succeed in their missions, and that they have the facilities and services they deserve when they return home. On the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee members conduct studies and investigations into allegations of waste, fraud, abuse, and wrongdoing and inefficiencies within the Department of Defense.
