San Mateo, CA – Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) will now accept works of art from high school students in grades 9-12 from the 12th District for the 2012 Congressional Art Competition. The winner of the competition will win a trip to Washington, DC and have his or her artwork displayed in a section of the U.S. Capitol for one year. The second and third place pieces will be displayed in the Congresswoman’s District Office for one year.
There is no theme, so students are free to select any topic and maximize their creativity.
Speier stated, “Art needs to be an integral part of our children’s education. We know that art education stimulates critical thinking, imagination, creativity and discipline.”
Speier added, “Every year I become more impressed with the talent in our community. I look forward to seeing many new forms of artistic expression.”
Students can drop off their artwork until Monday, April 16 at the District Office at 400 S. El Camino Real, suite 410, San Mateo between 9am – 6pm. See the guidelines for entries here..
