SAN MATEO, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) will hold a press conference with Lou Giraudo of Boudin Bakery at her Make it in America Exhibit at the San Mateo County Fair on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11 a.m.
Speier stated, “Boudin San Francisco Sourdough is a quintessential part of San Francisco’s history, landscape and culture. Since the gold rush in 1849, the Boudin family has given rise to their world famous sourdough bread and the original mother dough lives on today. Boudin has grown from a tiny bakery on Dupont Street to two production bakeries and 20 restaurants in California, eight of which have bakeries. It has 944 employees and produces 12 ½ million pounds of dough every year.” Boudin is the oldest continuously running company in San Francisco.
The United States is the world’s largest manufacturing economy, producing 21% of the all globally manufactured products compared to 15% produced by China and 12 % produced by Japan. American manufacturing accounts for 11.7% of GDP and is valued at $1.7 trillion. Twelve million Americans and over 1.6 million Californians are employed in manufacturing.
The exhibit at the San Mateo County Fair will be open Saturday, June 9 from 10a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
