SAN MATEO, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) and the police departments of South San Francisco, Daly City, San Bruno, Pacifica, Burlingame, Colma, Millbrae, Brisbane and Broadmoor will hold a gun buyback at the South San Francisco Courthouse on Saturday, April 13, 2013, 9 am - 12 pm. Any individual living in the participating cities and towns can surrender weapons, no questions asked, and receive up to $100 cash for a hand gun, shotgun or rifle, and up to $200 cash for an assault weapon.
Speier, the police chiefs and elected officials will hold a press conference at 10:00 am.
Speier stated, “Fewer guns mean fewer accidents and fewer chances for guns to fall into the wrong hands.”
South San Francisco Police Chief Michael Massoni stated, "I hope that citizens take advantage of this opportunity to properly dispose of a firearm they have in their home and no longer feel that they should keep."
People interested in participating in the gun buyback can call 650-829-3700 for more information. Participants must transport firearms unloaded and in the trunk of their vehicles.
