Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) issued the following statement today in response to a CPUC directive ordering PG&E to lower the operating pressure on certain gas transmission pipelines:
"Today's PUC order emphasizes the need to change the law to require that natural gas operators report all pressure spikes above MAOP. Currently, self-reporting is limited to spikes that result in damage. The PUC has takenthe right action by directing that PG&E cut pipeline pressure on pipelines that have experienced spikes without causing any damage. Safety must come first and that wasn't the case with the San Bruno rupture."
