Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo), a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today released the following statement regarding tomorrow’s scheduled hearing entitled “Regulatory Impediments to Job Creation.”

“Tomorrow’s hearing can either be a witch hunt or a measured examination of rules that no longer serve a purpose.   The rush to rid our nation of rules fueled the deregulation of the financial industry and that led to the hemorrhaging of 8 million jobs, plunging our economy into the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. There are many impediments to job creation like poor access to credit, home foreclosures, tax breaks that reward outsourcing, and a fragile manufacturing base. We should spend our time on those issues.  Jobs in my district are created each week as California leads the nation in renewable energy and biotechnology, both regulated industries.  We need to proceed with an open mind and a sense of what is best for the people we represent, not the political party we belong to.”
