SAN MATEO, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo), San Mateo County Supervisor Adrienne J. Tissier and San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks will hold an anonymous gun buyback at the San Mateo County Event Center on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Any individual can surrender weapons, no questions asked, and receive up to $100 cash for a hand gun, shotgun or rifle, and up to $200 cash for an assault weapon.
Speier stated, “Gun buybacks are a powerful tool to make our streets and schools safer. There is no reason we need 90 weapons per 100 Americans, making the U.S. the most heavily armed society in the world. Buybacks are convenient opportunities for responsible gun owners to get rid of guns they no longer want. Fewer guns also mean fewer accidents and fewer chances for guns to fall into the wrong hands.”
San Mateo County Supervisor Adrienne J. Tissier stated, "San Mateo County is proud to support the gun buyback program for the safety of our residents. One gun incident is one too many."
San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks stated, "The overall purpose of the gun buyback program is to make the streets of San Mateo County safer for those who live and work here. There are many unwanted and unsecured guns in households throughout the county. We are providing a place for people to come and dispose of them and get some money in return. We feel this will improve public safety in our county."
People interested in participating in the gun buyback can call 650-257-3503 x 9 for more information.
