Washington, DC – Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA), co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s continued failure to acknowledge the Armenia genocide.
“In his statement on Armenian Remembrance, President Trump failed yet again to acknowledge the atrocities of the Armenian genocide. In doing so, he missed an important opportunity to honor the memory of the victims and send a clear signal to authoritarian and oppressive regimes that their behavior will not be tolerated. I am leading a letter to President Trump, along with a bipartisan group of colleagues, calling on him to follow President Reagan’s lead and recognize that the Armenian genocide occurred. President Trump has the chance to stand by genocide victims, President Reagan, and members of the U.S. military who contemporaneously documented the genocide. I urge him to take advantage of this opportunity.”
