San Mateo, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) will host a town hall titled “A Conversation about America: A Robust Economy and a Housing Crisis- What are Solutions?” on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 1 pm at the Skyline College Theater in San Bruno. She will be joined by State Senator Jerry Hill, Assemblyman Kevin Mullin and San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine to discuss opportunities in the Bay Area to create new affordable housing, in particular on sites owned by health care districts or religious denominations.
“Teachers, plumbers, hospitality workers, retail clerks and everyone not making a sky-high salary are struggling or unable to rent a place to live in our region,” Rep. Speier said. “To meet our essential housing needs, we must use all the tools available to us. That includes difficult to understand tools like federal low-income housing credits. In the best of circumstances, those credits can deliver at least half of the funds to create new affordable units.”
At the town hall, Speier, Hill, Mullin and Pine will ask three of the region’s largest developers – Mid-Pen Housing, Mercy Housing and Eden Housing – about ways to create more affordable housing.
