Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Chair of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Committee, sent a letter signed by 27 of her colleagues, to CDC Director Robert Redfield calling for regular reporting of COVID-19 infections of essential workers and related deaths.

CDC already has this data for health care personnel. Later this month, they will begin collecting complete occupational data on COVID-19 case reports. But CDC has not committed to regularly making this data public. Regular reporting of COVID-19 infections and deaths, by occupation, would help policymakers, employers, workers, and the public to better understand the impact of the coronavirus on essential workers and take more effective actions to protect Americans who risk their health and lives every day to provide the goods and services that make life possible during this pandemic.
