April 11, 2018
Press Release

San Mateo, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) will host her annual “When I Grow Up…” event with three professional women to inspire 300 elementary and middle school girls to pursue their dream careers on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the Genentech campus. Rep. Speier will be joined by Dr. Sarah Allen, marine biologist/National Park Service Science Program Lead; Lyanne Melendez, ABC 7 News reporter; and Dr. Pratima Gupta, Kaiser OB/GYN. The event is at capacity.

“’When I Grow Up…’ is designed to inspire young girls, but it is also the most inspiring event I get to host every year. Seeing these young faces with big eyes and smiles gives me hope for the future,” Speier said. “This year’s event falls on the date chosen for the worldwide March for Science so it’s a very fitting date for this STEM-heavy gathering.”
