Congresswoman Speier Responds to House Intelligence Chair’s Recusal from Russia Investigation
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswomen Jackie Speier (CA-14), who serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement in response to Committee Chairman Devin Nunes announcing he has recused himself from the committee’s investigation into Russian influence in the 2016 election.
“The American people rightfully expect that we will conduct an independent, thorough investigation into the unprecedented Russian interference in the 2016 election. The recusal by chairman Nunes removes one more roadblock in our effort to move forward in a bipartisan fashion. However, to do so requires the rescheduling of the scuttled public hearing – canceled by Mr. Nunes – of important representatives of the intelligence community, and a commitment to go where the facts lead us and not become the verifier of errant Presidential tweets.”
