Rep. Speier Condemns President Trump’s Failure to Respond to Russian Cyber Attacks
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) released the following statement in response to reports that voting systems in at least 39 states were infiltrated by Russia during the 2016 election.
The silence from the White House is deafening. As we continue to learn more about the full extent of Russian intrusion into our voting infrastructure during the 2016 election – with new reports that systems in at least 39 states were infiltrated – President Trump has yet to publicly express any concern or condemnation regarding these hostile acts by a principal adversary of the United States,” Rep. Speier said
“According to a report in Bloomberg News, the ‘Russians were possibly preparing to delete registration or slow vote tallying in order to undermine confidence in the election.’”
“Make no mistake, this is a direct strike against our democratic system and should be treated as such. But despite the fact that experts agree that the Russians will continue with their cyber warfare, President Trump remains focused on his personal welfare and that of disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Instead of manufacturing fake “voter fraud” charges for partisan advantage, the President must speak out and take action against the real threats to the foundations of our governance. And Congress must continue its important work to fully investigate Russian interference in the election so that we may ensure the future integrity of our democracy,” Rep. Speier said.
