San Mateo, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo/Redwood City) released the following statement in response to PG&E’s announcement that it expects criminal charges from the U.S. Attorney’s office in connection with the fatal 2010 San Bruno pipeline explosion:

“PG&E’s wanton disregard for human life and safety is well documented. Seared into my memory are the distraught families searching for their loved ones who had perished in the destruction of the fire. Eight deaths, severe burn injuries and loss of property is the tragic legacy of a public utility that did not know the location, the condition and the type of pipelines in its own system. Justice must be served and I applaud the U.S Attorney's office for its exhaustive investigation that has brought us to this point.”
