San Mateo, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo/Redwood City) will host art students, teachers and parents to announce the winner of the 2014 Congressional Art Competition at her District Office, 155 Bovet Road, Suite 780, San Mateo on Wednesday, April 23 at 5:30 pm.
The Congressional Art Competition is a unique opportunity to encourage art education in schools and to give high school students a chance to gain national recognition for their creative talents. The winner will receive a trip to Washington, DC for an honorary reception where Members of Congress will recognize finalists from all 50 states. The student’s artwork will hang on display for one year in the main corridor between the U.S. Capitol and House Office Buildings.
Speier stated, “Every year I am impressed and inspired by the artistic talents in my Congressional District. These high school students submit superb portraits, landscapes, photographs and still lifes and it is always a challenge to pick a winner. In my book, all of these students are winners!”
The press is welcome at the reception.
