Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) issued the following statement today in response to PG&E’s request to the CPUC for more time – possibly until the end of the year - to verify that its natural gas pipelines are operated at safe pressure levels:

“It is unacceptable, even laughable, for a multi-billion dollar, publicly traded utility to plead for more time to get their life-critical records in order. It is time for the CPUC to fine PG&E for its incompetence. It will take PG&E as much time as they are allowed to piece together a questionably accurate record. Be that as it may. Making the system safe immediately must be the priority. PGE needs to pay the fine, fix the system, pay the price. “
