San Mateo, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo/Redwood City), will hold a town hall on access to care at the VA San Francisco on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 4 p.m. This is the second town hall to provide veterans with a chance to raise any concerns about the VA’s health care appointment process in the Bay Area. The first one was attended by over 100 veterans at the VA Palo Alto.

“While we didn’t hear any suggestions of cover-ups that have plagued other VA Medical Centers in the country, the town hall served as a good sounding board to identify deficiencies and ways of improvement at the VA Palo Alto. There are issues we can fix and improve, such as long waits for dental care or hip replacements, antiquated software systems and phone systems that drop calls,” Speier said. “Now I want to hear from veterans treated at the VA San Francisco and give them a chance to comment on the quality of the access to care they receive.”

VA Director Bonnie Graham will participate in the town hall.

Anyone wishing to speak or attend should “register” with Rep. Speier’s office by telephone: 650-342-0300, or email to Mark.Nagales@mail.house.gov . Seating is limited.

There will be no public discussion of an individual’s health. Please limit comments to how hard or easy it was to see VA health care personnel.
