SAN MATEO, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) will host a Make it in America Exhibit for the second year at the San Mateo County Fair on June 9 and 10, 2012. She will hold a press conference with exhibitors on Saturday, June 9 at 11 a.m.
Eighteen Exhibitors will display and demonstrate their American products. Ford will show off a brand new Focus Electric; Lockheed Martin will present three-dimensional video of their latest solar research; Mission Motorcycles will bring an electric, zero emission “Zero Motorcycle”; and Boudin Bakery will provide samples of its world-famous sourdough bread. Kelly Moore will be back this year with a gallery where children can test their painting skills and Intuitive Surgical will return with one of their da Vinci surgical robots. For a complete list of exhibitors see the attached program.
Speier stated, “The Bay Area has some of the most creative and innovative minds in America and that is reflected in the fantastic products they make. Buying American-made products creates American jobs and a better future for our children. Manufacturing jobs must be part of our economic recovery. They are well-paying jobs supporting middle class families.”
Average total compensation for non-manufacturing jobs is about $63,000 per year, but nearly $74,000 for manufacturing jobs.
Speier added, “To tackle unemployment and bring jobs back home from overseas, we need to train the next generation of American employees with the skills required by 21st century manufacturing.”
The United States is the world’s largest manufacturing economy, producing 21% of the all globally manufactured products compared to 15% produced by China and 12 % produced by Japan. American manufacturing accounts for 11.7% of GDP and is valued at $1.7 trillion. Twelve million Americans and over 1.6 million Californians are employed in manufacturing.
The exhibit at the San Mateo County Fair will be open Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
