Last night, the Illinois State Legislature chose to be on the right side of history by voting to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Thank you to State Rep. Lou Lang and to all the advocates for your tireless leadership to bring this over the finish line. Now we’re only one state shy of reaching our goal – which is even more reason to pass my proposal in Congress, H.J. Res. 53, which would remove the deadline for ratification to amend the Constitution.
For far too long, women have been promised equal protection under the law, all while being paid only 80 cents for every dollar paid to men and fighting off harassment and discrimination in the workplace. The #TimesUp and #MeToo movements have showed us that we need to put our money where our mouths are: we must ratify the #ERANow!
