Washington, DC - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo/Redwood City) released the following statement in response to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges’ decision to change its rules and allow City College of San Francisco to request more time to comply with accrediting standards:

“It looks like the commission finally decided to get this terrible situation back under control. What had been labeled by commission management as “gibberish” has since become commission policy. City College will be forced to jump through some hoops and we’ll see if the person holding the hoops plays it straight.  If she does, City College will get through this and will become fully accredited again.

“Meanwhile 80,000 students won’t be kicked to the curb and will be able to complete their college education. I will continue to monitor ACCJC’s conduct to ensure that City College and other community colleges are treated fairly.”
