WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) on Tuesday issued the following statement in response to her appointment as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Military Personnel.
“During my time in Congress and on the House Armed Services Committee, I have focused on our government’s commitment to our service members and ensuring that these brave men and women are properly equipped, trained, and protected. This includes my work to protect service members against threats of sexual violence and harassment; whistleblowers against retaliation; and California National Guard members who faced bonus claw backs due to widespread mismanagement and fraud. This also includes my work to provide $25 million in funding for the study of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) research; and all servicewomen access to a broad range of FDA-approved contraceptives.”
“As Ranking Member of the Military Personnel Subcommittee, I will continue to work on these issues and more, including the need to address the disproportionate rates of suicide and child abuse and neglect that are impacting our military members and their families. I look forward to working with HASC Chairman Mac Thornberry, Ranking Member Adam Smith, and Military Personnel Subcommittee Chair Mike Coffman to ensure that our government demonstrates the same level of commitment to our military personnel that they demonstrate by putting their lives on the line to defend our country.”
