San Mateo, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (CA-14) released the following statement in response to U.S. District Court Judge Thelton Henderson’s sentence in the criminal trial against PG&E:

“It is hard to believe that justice can ever be done for the families in San Bruno who lost loved ones and their homes, but I hope that Judge Henderson’s maximum sentence imposed upon PG&E will bring some closure to the survivors of the deadly gas line explosion and fire that killed eight people more than six years ago. While the financial punishment of $3 million can be viewed as a mere cost of doing business for PG&E, it will always live with the shame of being convicted of deliberately violating pipeline safety regulations. Hopefully, the criminal conduct that PGE engaged in will never be replicated by any gas operator in the country.”
